New Laurentia animals by tier
Every animal has a tier (1 to 8 in New Laurentia; Kilimaya goes higher), and weapons show a tier badge in the shop. Use a weapon that covers the tier: too light and the shot will not penetrate, too heavy and you ruin meat you could have sold.
Tiers for the 15 New Laurentia species, cross-checked with the community wiki. Kilimaya tiers have not been published, so they are not shown. The mission "MooseNews" asks for a one-shot moose with .338 Lapua Magnum. Guns and calibers
What is Way of the Hunter 2?
Way of the Hunter 2 is a open-world hunting simulation by Nine Rocks Games, available on PC (Steam, GOG), PS5, Xbox Series X|S. It spent six months in Early Access from March 26, 2026 and left it on September 29, 2026, shipping with 28 huntable species across two 100 km² reserves, the Canadian-inspired New Laurentia and the African Kilimaya Reserve, plus a smaller 16 km² hub map around the Hearth & Hunt Headquarters lodge. Get Started in 5 Steps
- Pick a difficulty you can live with. There are three; easy makes animals less aware of you. See the beginner tips.
- Do Angel's mule deer tutorial and Mikael's lessons. They teach need zones, fitness and calling. The full chain is on the missions page.
- Match the gun to the animal tier. Small game is tier 1, moose and bison are tier 8. The animal list shows every tier we could confirm.
- Bring the dog when something runs. The Foxhound follows blood trails and finds dead animals. Dog guide.
- Spend early cash on habitat fixes. Pollution and invasive plants cap how fit a herd can get. Herd management.

Recent changes
- SITE This wiki goes live with the 28-species animal list, the three maps, the gun list and every New Laurentia mission.
- MINOR Patch 1.1 (build 212672) adds a long-term weather forecast you can change in the menu, inverted look options and a higher default controller deadzone (12) for stick drift.
- MAJOR Version 1.0 launches on PC (Steam, GOG), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at $39.99. Early Access owners get the Heirloom Pack free; the dog can now be petted.
- MAJOR Update 0.5.0 brings Ammo Change to everyone, with auto-equip, free unlimited default ammo and bow support, plus the Merkel Helix Speedster (.30-06).
- MAJOR Update 0.4.1 moves two-player co-op to the default branch and adds the CVA Cascade LRX (.270 Win) and the Bergara Mercury Ti30 suppressor.

Is Way of the Hunter 2 out?
Yes. Version 1.0 launched on September 29, 2026 on PC (Steam, GOG), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It had been in Steam Early Access since March 26, 2026.
How much does Way of the Hunter 2 cost?
The Standard Edition is $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99. The Deluxe Edition, which adds the Season One Season Pass, is $59.99. Owners of the first game get 13% off on the same platform. Prices per edition are on the editions page.
Is Way of the Hunter 2 multiplayer?
Yes, two-player online co-op. It reached the default branch in Update 0.4.1 on September 1, 2026. Single-player and co-op use separate worlds and animal populations. Multiplayer is online only, so there is no split screen.
